What Is FSSAI?


FSSAI is an independent organization established by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India in 2011. It was formed in August 2011 under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standard Act, 2006. The FSSAI license is a unique 14 digit registration number given to restaurants, manufacturers, and traders which must be printed on food packages to ensure that the food meets the safety food standards. This upholds consumers that they are eating at the right place that follows the safety food standards.

 

The primary goal of the FSSAI is to protect and advance public health by establishing and enforcing food safety regulations. They also dispel misconceptions about food and food-related. They also establish objectives and plans, such as outlawing the use of synthetic trans fats by 2022.

What is the function of FSSAI?

There is some function of FSSAI

·         Setting Rules and Guidelines for company – FSSAI sets rules and regulation which need to be followed by all food manufacturing companies, restaurants and trader for guiding them for hygiene and food safety

·         Granting License – Government grants FSSAI license to pursue any food related business, the owner can get a certificate and license with the permission of FSSAI.

·         Test the Quality of Food – FSSAI checks standard and quality of food by manufactured for all companies registered under FSSAI.

·         Time to Time checkup – Proper inspection is done by the department for food-producing and manufacturing companies to ensure the standard are at par with the guidelines or not.

·         Spreading Food Safety Awareness – FSSAI spreads Food safety and awareness among people and inform the citizens about the importance of safe and hygienic food consumption which should be safe for Childers.

·         Maintain Records and Data – FSSAI also maintains proper records and date of all the registered organization. In case of any violation of rules prescribed by FSSAI can lead to the termination of the license.

Type of food licenses issued by FSSAI for food safety

Mainly FSSAI in India issued the following three type of license:

ü  Central license

ü  State license

ü  Basic Registration

 Central License Registration

·         Companies operating in the food business, large manufacturers, Central Government Agencies, ports or airports must have central licenses issued by FSSAI. This license is issued by the Central Government. A company into a food business needs to have a license for the head office in case it is operational in different states or cities for FSSAI license. If FBOs having an annual turnover of Rs. 20 crore this license is for them. FSSAI certificate is issued for 5 years and at least for 1 year. 

State License Registration

·         This license is for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) like transports, storage houses, transported, distributors, marketers, etc. This license is issued by state government. The company must have to operation in only one state. The business has an annual turnover of Rs. 12 lakh. Same as central license registration state license issued certificate for 5 year and at least for 1 year.

 

Basic License Registration

·         License is issued by the State FSSAI authority / State Government and is given to small manufacturers, storage units, marketers, transporters, and restaurants, distributors, eateries, cake shops, retail shops, pan shops basically any small business having turnover less than 12 lakhs. The company has an annual turnover of Rs. 12 lakh.The license issuance for a period of 5 years and a minimum of 1 year

 

What are the documents required for FSSAI license?

Following list of documents you would require for the issuance of Basic Registration:

  • FSSAI Declaration,
  • As a copy of identity proof of food business operator,
  • A copy of proof of possession of premise such as rent agreement,
  • and also MOA, AOA, Partnership deeds etc. – depending on the type of entity,
  • Category of food products involved,
  • Also, Plan of food safety management system
  • Additionally, Documents required for Manufacturers
